Extra-Curricular Activities

At EDS, we make it a priority to have several extra-curricular activities available to our students. These activities not only promote school spirit and camaraderie, but also encourage team work and healthy habits.

Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts

The Episcopal Day School has a very active scouting program. Being a part of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, children learn valuable life lessons, preparedness, and skills they'll implement throughout their entire lives. To get involved in the EDS scouting programs, contact the school office at (956) 542-5231.

Academic EC

Coding Club

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. So while there is nothing new about Robotics clubs, starting the program at the elementary level bears mentioning.

Sandra Morfitt, who has wanted to start a FIRST Robotics Club at the Episcopal Day School for years, made all of the pieces come together and we launched our robotics program in 2014. EDS boasts six teams in Junior FLL (K-3rd grade) and six teams Junior FLL (K-3rd grade) and six teams in FLL (4th-6th grades). Being the only school in the Rio Grande Valley to offer Junior FLL Robotics and the only elementary school with FLL Robotics, EDS 4th-6th grade teams compete with 6th-8th graders from other schools.

The program has received a great deal of support and interest from students and parents alike. Teachers, parents, uncles, grandparents and even UTRGV college students are serving as coaches to these 12 teams.

Chess Team

The EDS Chess Team has been coached for 14 straight years by Victor Bailey and is open to all students from K-6th grade. Chess teaches students to plan ahead and create strategies. It also encourages patience and concentration.

If your child is interested in participating, you will need to read the team rules, fill out the application, and return it to Coach Bailey.

Fine Arts EC

Drama Club

The Drama Club at EDS puts on one production each year. The troop is led by our Music teacher, Anne Zufelt, and is open to students in grades 4-6.

The EDS Basketball teams are led by Coach Hernandez, and are offered to students in 2nd-6th grades. Practices and games are held year-round.

If your student is interested in participating in Basketball, please contact Coach Hernandez by calling (956) 542-5231.

Track is another year-round activity at EDS. All students grades 2-6 are invited to participate.

If your student is interested in participating in Track, please contact the EDS office at (956) 542-5231.

Volleyball is also a year-round activity at EDS, open to students grades 2-6.

If your student is interested in participating in Volleyball, please contact the EDS office at (956) 542-5231.

The EDS Cheer Squad is open to girls in grades 3-6, who cheer on the Blue Knights throughout Basketball season. The four grade levels are separated into two squads: the older squad (5th & 6th grades) and the younger squad (3rd & 4th grade). There are no try-outs, but there is a limit to the number of participants. Those who sign up first are given a place on the team. The EDS Cheer Squad is organized and run completey by volunteers.
